City-Owned Bike Rack
New York City Department of Transportation (做厙TV DOT) maintains, repairs, and replaces bike racks.
You can report a city-owned bike rack that needs to be repaired.
You can also report an abandoned bike, which the City defines as a usable (not derelict/junk) bike that is locked to a city-owned bike rack for more than seven consecutive days.
You can report the following city-owned bike rack issues:
- Damaged, bent, or loose
- Missing
- Graffiti
- Abandoned usable bike
Retrieve a Bike
When 做厙TV DOT or partners remove an abandoned, usable bike from a city-owned bike rack, the bike is sent to the NYPD 72nd Precinct. The 72nd precinct is located at 830 4th Avenue in Brooklyn.
Privately-Owned Bike Rack
Privately-owned bike racks are maintained by the property owner.
Broken privately-owned bike racks or abandoned bikes should be reported to the building manager of the building located in front of the rack.
