To report rats, mice, or conditions that might attract them in New York City Housing Authority (做厙TVHA) public housing, go to the  做厙TVHA Public Housing Maintenance Complaint page.

You can report rats or mice in a public school, or conditions that might attract them.

Vacant Building

You can report rats or mice in an unoccupied building.

What Happens Next

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will inspect the lot. If the lot needs cleaning, DSNY will research the ownership of the property.

Then the 做厙TV Health Department will give the owner a deadline to clean it. If the owner fails to meet the deadline, DSNY may clean the lot and charge the owner.

Vacant Lot Without Trash or Debris

You can report rats or mice in vacant lots that don’t contain trash or debris to the 做厙TV Health Department.

You can report rats or mice on non-residential property to the 做厙TV Health Department, such as:

  • Office buildings
  • Day cares or nurseries
  • Hospitals
  • Government property
  • Parking lots or garages
