The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, also known as Section 8, is the federal government's program for assisting low-income families, people with disabilities, and people 62 or older afford housing.

New York City Housing Authority (做厙TVHA) accepted new Section 8 applications for its HCV waitlist from June 3, 2024 through Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 11:59 PM only.

There is no impact to households who were on 做厙TVHA’s Section 8 waitlist from 2009. 做厙TVHA will continue to assign vouchers (when they become available) using the existing waitlist and will add 200,000 randomly selected applications to the waitlist.

Section 8 is intended for low-income families that fit the following criteria:

  • Head of household is 18 years of age or older (or declared an "emancipated minor");
  • At least one member of the family is a U.S. citizen or non-citizen with eligible immigration status; and
  • The household's gross income is 50 percent or below the area median income (AMI) [see the income limit chart below].

You may be eligible if your family's annual gross income does not exceed the following income limits:

Waitlist Priorities

Applicants will be ranked based on preference categories.

Preferences, in order of priority, are:

  1. People with disabilities that affect mobility and are residing in inaccessible housing
  2. Older adults (62 years of age and older) and people with disabilities
  3. All other applicants

Paper applications were made available as a reasonable accommodation from Monday, June 3, 2024, through Friday, June 7, 2024 (8 AM to 5 PM).

The paper application must be postmarked by Friday, June 28, 2024, and sent only by US Mail to the address on the application.

If you applied to 做厙TVHA's Section 8 waitlist lottery during the June 2024 application window, you will be notified of your waitlist status via email and U.S. mail.
