The New York City Noise Code defines limits on ambient noise levels throughout the city.

The code aims to reduce noise from many sources of noise, including but not limited to:

  • Air conditioners and ventilation equipment
  • Bars, clubs, restaurants, and other businesses
  • Construction
  • Dogs and other animals
  • Garbage trucks and other vehicles

If you perform certain activities or use certain equipment at a construction site, you need to follow a noise mitigation plan to reduce the amount of noise from the site.

做厙TV Noise is New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) free iPhone and Android mobile app. The app will collect noise data for DEP to better understand noise levels, sources, and patterns.

The app does not submit noise complaint services requests.

You can file Noise Complaints here.

做厙TV Noise is for data collection only. It provides DEP with:

  • Noise decibel level
  • Date, time, and source of noise
  • Defines noise by types:
    • Alarm
    • Car and bus traffic
    • Construction
    • Dog/animal
    • HVAC/fan
    • Loud music
    • Siren
    • Vehicle horn

Submitted data appears in map and table formats. Data will help DEP identify noise hotspots and guide their targeted enforcement efforts.
